Blog Break

I've taken a break from updating my blog. Lately my time has been completely consumed by the new job and learning new stuff (oh yeah, and snowboarding). For some reason I don't feel like sharing or I'm just too tired when I do have a few minutes of free time. Hopefully I'll have something interesting to write about again someday.

On a frightening note I have been accepted for the Sony beta phase 3 for Everquest on PS2. If I thought I didn't have any free time over the last couple weeks I'm DOOMED. I wonder if I can get showEQ to work.

New job

I started the new job at Mammoth Mountain today as a Flash/Coldfusion web developer. It's going to be a lot of work, but it's a good opportunity and I'm excited about learning new technologies and having a good time snowboarding this winter. Keep your eye on mammothmountain.com and you'll start to see more animations and interactivity added to the site on an ongoing basis.

Movies

Someone recommended that I watch the movie Salton Sea a while back. I've had the mpegs for a while now and I still knew nothing about the movie. I saw it in the video store today and rented it. It was not the best movie I've ever seen, but it had a creepy storyline that was interesting and unpredictible. I've never known any tweakers nor have I delved into the world of meth or speed, but after seeing this movie I think I know too much. Alternatively, I watched The Heist (Gene Hackman) the other night and from the good reviews I remembered hearing I was thoroughly disappointed. How many twists can a movie take before it's not only unrealistic, but just stupid?

Winter is back

There is something cool about winter that I have forgotten about since all the snow started melting back in May. Don't get me wrong, now that I have lived here in Mammoth one full summer I admit I like the summer as much if not more than winter, but there's something special about being forced to stay indoors where it's warm and watch the storm outside while you sit inside and be lazy. This weekend has been a perfect example of that; while it's snowed a good 6-10 inches here in town and 3-4 feet up on the mountain I've been able to sit on the couch, learn some flash and coldfusion for the new job, and relax with my roommate and fiance and get some serious progress done in GTA: Vice City. I would've gone snowboarding this weekend, but I decided to wait until I get fully hired at the mountain and get my pass so they can't deduct days used from when they refund the pass I bought last spring. IMO, this is going to be an amazing winter!

Schlotzsky's: Funny Name, Free Network

Schlotzsky's Deli's in Autin, TX have started using warchalking around their restaraunts to advertise free network access at some of their locations. Clever.

I live in Vice City now

I moved to Mammoth about a year ago and I have been loving it ever since. About a year ago I immersed myself into the world of Liberty City via a PS2 game console and Grand Theft Auto 3. I still have one mission left (and a ton of other misc things) to complete GTA3, although I've moved onto Vice City since I picked it up last week. GTA3: Vice City is by far the best game I've ever played on any console or PC. The problem I am dealing with here is a conflict between time consumption needed to get up to speed with my new job starting next week, snowboard season starting tomorrow, and having enough time to finish Vice City eventually. In summary, I'm doomed. :-)

Have I Failed?

Well after preaching to others about how they should vote I realize my hipocracy in the fact that I never registered to vote in Mono County since I moved here a year ago, I'm supposed to be voting in LA county right now. In the past I would've written it off to the thought that "my vote doesn't really count", but deep down I know that's bullshit and is the procrastinating side of my brain talking. Lately, as I've been peeking my head into the political arena enough to see what's happening in general I feel more like a minority as a democrat in this country. Oh well, hopefully I'll be more on the ball the next round of votes. You can bet that I will be at the 2004 voting booths marking anything but Bush.
